A more flexible approach to support employee well-being

UHC Store is an exclusive digital shop where members can choose and purchase everyday well-being products to fit their lifestyle, needs and preferences.

Today’s workforce expects more from their benefits than traditional care and coverage can deliver: 84% of surveyed U.S. consumers ranked wellness as a top or important priority.1 And 85% of surveyed employees said they believe well-being is just as important as their salary, with 78% expecting employers to support it.2

In other words, employees — especially generations entering and shaping the workforce — may want support for their whole well-being: stress and sleep, nutrition and fitness, family planning, mental health, chronic condition management and beyond.1 3 Meeting those expectations is becoming the standard.

UHC Store was built for exactly this moment. A member-exclusive digital shop available within the UnitedHealthcare® app and on myuhc.com®, UHC Store gives members access to more than 30 health, wellness and lifestyle offerings to supplement traditional care and coverage — from women’s health support, fitness and nutrition programs and mental health resources to support for sleep, stress and chronic condition management. Members can choose to purchase offerings that fit their lifestyle, their needs and their stage of life.

And now, self-funded employers have a new way to contribute to those choices through an integrated lifestyle spending account (LSA) that employees can use exclusively for eligible UHC Store purchases. The LSA is designed to help make it easier and more affordable for employees to access the well-being support that matters most to them, with no reimbursement process required.

Putting more personalized options at employees’ fingertips

Personalization powers everyday life — and it’s reshaping benefits, too. Millennials and Gen Z now make up the majority of the workforce, and they bring with them a fundamentally different set of expectations. Where previous generations may have accepted a one-size-fits-all benefits package, today’s employees want offerings that reflect their actual lives, which might include fitness goals, mental health needs, family situations and chronic conditions.

And while health care costs continue to rise year over year,4 demand for personalized, meaningful support has never been stronger. Employers feel the pressure on both sides — the challenge of offering benefit packages rich enough to appeal to a diverse, multigenerational workforce, while managing rising costs and administrative complexity. That’s why UnitedHealthcare is invested in a multi-year strategy to help fuel consumer choice and provide employers innovative solutions built to help to support employee well-being and give employees more control over their experiences.

UHC Store was built to help meet these challenges as a supplement to employers’ existing benefit package. UHC Store allows employers to help support employee expectations by offering a breadth of offerings through a single platform, without the cost and administrative burden of procuring, contracting and managing multiple vendors individually.  “Creating a consumer-centric experience starts with giving our members more choice when it comes to their health and wellness selections,” explains Amy Jordan, vice president of consumer digital engagement for UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual.

What members can shop for

UHC Store includes health, wellness and lifestyle offerings across 4 key categories:

  • Everyday health — including resources and support for women’s health,* mental well-being, stress, sleep and more
  • Family wellness — including resources and support for family planning, caregiving, pregnancy, postpartum and more
  • Fitness and nutrition — including resources and support for weight management, coaching, nutrition, meal delivery and fitness
  • Health coordination — including support and resources for complex or chronic conditions, such as autoimmune, diabetes, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal (MSK) and more

Offerings span a wide variety of well-known brands including FitBit, Instacart, Uber, Care.com, Flo, Every Mother, WeightWatchers, Cylinder, Nutrisense, Trifecta, Dario, Embr Labs and more.

And UHC Store continues to grow and expand its offerings, including options to help meet evolving expectations consumers increasingly value, like functional nutrition, beauty and appearance, longevity and more.

Employees can add new programs at any time, whenever a need arises. Plus, members receive an average 26% savings by purchasing offerings through UHC Store rather than buying them direct — with discounts available on most offerings.5 When employees have more ways to customize their wellness choices, it may encourage a culture of well-being and may help employers gain a competitive edge in attracting and retaining talent.

“At UnitedHealthcare, we’re hyper-focused on creating the opportunity to provide additional value to our members by offering programs we’ve negotiated at a discount on their behalf,” Jordan says.
